Maintaining homes, offices, and other structures affects the quality of our health and the environment. Research shows that at least 40 percent of the energy produced in the world each year is consumed by buildings. In addition, about 40 percent of landfills are made up of construction and demolition debris, as well as discarded building supplies.

The items listed in this category are products that were selected because they are non-toxic, durable, reusable, biodegradable, and/or recyclable. When purchasing maintenance supplies also consider building materials that have been salvaged from deconstruction sites or donated for reuse. The ReUse Center, located in the Triphammer Mall, offers a regularly changing inventory such items.
